How does it work? The science bit. Broadband uses a technology called ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Synchronous Line). ADSL technology was developed to provide high speed, ‘always-on’ Internet access and data transmission in a cost-effective manner by utilizing the over 100 million existing copper telephone lines installed nationwide. ADSL transforms your existing line into a high-speed digital line. It makes better use of the line by splitting it into two channels - one using high frequency (for high speed data connection) and the other low frequency (for voice). You can therefore use the line for normal voice communication (telephone calls) and high- speed broadband access at the same time. This means you don't need a separate line installed, saving you money and hassle. When you order the UK Broadband Provider service, we will give you an ADSL line splitter free of charge.
Overview · Always on.
ADSL is not compatible with ISDN; there will be an additional 12 day delay for users wishing to convert ISDN lines to PSTN prior to ADSL Installation. ADSL is not compatible with out of band signalling services such as RedCare and Pulse Meter Charging. |
